Today, the museum’s holdings include about 1 million 300 thousand objects. Its exhibitions combine genuine historical artefacts and modern multimedia technologies, with all the exhibitions being accompanied by online educational programmes. They include footages of documentaries, interview episodes, graphic charts and diagrams, which thoroughly narrate the momentous events of Russian history.

The museum also organizes regular presentations by historians, politicians, public and cultural figures held at its public lecture centre and publishes the popular science monthly “Living History”.
