One of the oldest museums in the Far East was founded on August 16 (28), 1891 at the initiative of the Blagoveshchensk City Duma. In 1993, the museum was named after the famous local historian, author of numerous scientific works, G.S. Novikov-Daursky, who worked here for 34 years (1927-1961).
The museum is located in one of the most beautiful old buildings in Blagoveshchensk. The museum funds store over 160 thousand items on the nature, history and culture of the Amur region. Many of them are unique: costumes and attributes of Daurian and Evenk shamans (late 19th century), a music box (Germany, late 19th century), Ust-Nyukzhinsky meteorite (late 20th century), bones of zoolites, etc…. Every year the museum sets more than 70 exhibitions and serves about 150 thousand visitors from Russia and other countries.
